The Shadow of Fear

Put your cape on and run towards your goal.

A little lesson I learned this morning (a silly one, because I’m silly).  I don’t like darkness outside, and I’m not sure why, but I just don’t like it. This morning at 6:20 a.m. (still dark out) I had to get gas.  I was walking out I saw across the parking lot from me what appeared to be a very tall person.  I couldn’t take my eyes off of them.  Suddenly, all the “Criminal Minds” episodes I’ve seen come to my memory! However the closer I got the smaller it appeared then it happened I REALIZED IT WAS MY SHADOW!

Apparently a porch light was behind me and reflecting my shadow onto the building across the parking lot from me. The Lord showed me (once I stopped giggling) that fear is magnified because of our unwillingness to get close to the issue.  Many things are much worse when they are happening in our own minds, and our imagination runs wild.   But, if we trust God as our protector, and we begin to get closer vs. withdrawal from what looks like a scary situation, things will look a lot less scary.  In a nutshell, we can not change what we will not confront.

  1. Hi Shannon, this is so true. I love the show Criminal Minds and having worked in the Law Enforcement field for quite some time the imagination can go wild. I love how God gives us strength to conquer the fears in our lives and makes things a lot less scary. Loved your post.
